Aesthetic Surgery for Men
The urge to feel better about your looks is not just for women. More & more men are looking to match the way they feel with their image in the mirror. If you’re one of these men, you are not alone. Since 2000, the number of men receiving treatment has increased by over 350%.
Common male concerns are breast size (gynecomastia), facial changes of aging, and body contouring, especially the abdomen. Compared to women, more men prefer non-invasive or minimally invasive treatment as the first choice, even if it may mean additional treatment/surgery later. I am happy to help you navigate the path to your individual treatment plan. Below is a thumbnail sketch of some of your treatment options.
Gynecomastia: This is when men develop abnormal breast size. While this can occur from hormonal imbalance or from exposure to marijuana, for most patients the cause is unknown, or a side effect of aging. The increased breast tissue is primarily fat, but there is also a component of fibrous tissue.

In my experience, liposuction alone is enough to treat most men, especially gynecomastia of middle age. Some patients will have localized dense tissue, usually below the nipple, that needs to be removed through a small incision around your nipple. For some men, especially middle-aged, the breast skin may not tighten as much as expected. In these cases, radiofrequency treatment, either ThermiTight or Thermi250 may help tighten your skin.
ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL DOCTOR AND STAFF!!
Absolutely wonderful doctor and staff!! I truly felt like I was listened to and that my questions and opinions were taken seriously. Excellent practice.
Facial Aging: Aging is an evolution. Just as it takes time to look older, you can work to look younger in stages. Men are more sensitive to looking like they are trying too hard to recapture their youth, which can be worse than keeping some of the signs of aging. First priority is making your eyes look younger, followed by the area around your mouth, and your neck & forehead last.
First is basic skin care, using a combination of non-abrasive exfoliation, collagen stimulation, and sunscreen. Skin quality can then be addressed with non-invasive treatments using a combination of plasma skin treatment or ThermiSmooth. Plasma delivers pulses of ionized gas to your skin, stimulating skin elasticity. ThermiSmooth uses radiofrequency to tighten collagen, similar to cooking an egg in a microwave.
A youthful appearance frames your eyes, making them the focus of attention. Thermi and plasma can help tighten eyelid skin, but cheek volume and support also need to be considered. The most natural volume is your own fat, but this requires a minor surgical procedure. Off-the-shelf fillers, such as Restylane Lyft, Bellafill, and Sculptra are non-surgical options to restore lost support. These fillers are injected using very small needles, but due to the risk of bruising with ANY injection, you need to allow time between treatment and important public appearances.
For true regenerative medicine, the injection of human placental tissue (Epifix/amnioFix) stimulates your body to repair itself. Though still in the early stages of development, I have seen improvements in skin, as well as in the support tissues of your cheek.
ThermiTight is a minimally invasive treatment that can tighten your neck and jowl using radiofrequency delivered beneath your skin. ThermiRase uses radiofrequency to give a “permanent” Botox effect by damaging the nerve supplying the frown muscles.
When needed, tuck/lift surgery is always an option. This can give you the most dramatic result, with any prior treatment having an additive effect. For men, the incision needs to be placed a bit ahead of your ear, creating a hair-free area between your beard & your ear. This may make your scar more visible.
Body Contouring: Love handles are the most common complaint for men, followed by general abdominal fullness. Thermi 250 is a non-invasive treatment that can both tighten skin and reduce volume, but there is no guarantee of the result. Liposuction is the most reliable method to remove excess volume, with Thermi 250 a strong supplement for enhancing the results of surgery. Liposuction is an outpatient procedure. The length of recovery depends on the amount of work needed.
Consultation: When you come to my office, you meet with me personally to discuss your needs and concerns. I offer 3-D imaging to help you understand your treatment options, as well as understand how others see you, as well as how you see yourself. In most cases, plan to spend at least one hour discussing your care. Due to the amount of information exchanged, I suggest you bring a trusted friend to help you retain more of our discussion.
